While the first two-year cycle of the symposium organized by the new team focused mainly on the interpretation of the history of the event and the relevance of its format at present, the topic of the following cycle will be focus on the position of ceramics in the context of contemporary free art. A discussion of this sort has been missing in our environment for a long time, resulting in an insufficient evaluation of ceramic works studied and very little reflection of the (increasingly frequent) use of ceramic material by so-called free artists. Our aim therefore is to turn this imaginary interspace into a topic of discussion and interest. The aim of the 29th International Symposium of Ceramics in Bechyně is therefore to explore media overlaps and possibilities of ceramics within contemporary art. Emphasis is placed on leaving the set boundaries of the field while maintaining respect for the nature and specificity of the material. The intention is to present artistic approaches based on the internal logic of the material and reflecting its cultural and historical contexts. At the same, those approaches can and should be self-critical to their own artistic medium. After last year's curator Veronika Rollová, Kristýna Péčová will curate the next symposium, under the supervision of Eva Pelechová. Selecting participants for next year's symposium will be Emma Hanzlíková, Jimena Mendoza, Jan Mergl, Milan Mikuláštík and Gabriel Vach.
