Nao Matsunaga
Artist intertwines delicate drawings with coloured areas, sometimes glossy and smooth, sometimes rough and raw. His work is unrestrictedly spontaneous, despite his extensive knowledge of the material, which is apparent during all phases of the process: when modelling, working with structure and colour and also during application of the principles of painting or woodcarving. The horizontal execution of Matsunaga’s new suspended works is reminiscent of the process used by procedural artists, the organised chaos of their creation is underscored by the properties of the ceramic material itself.
