PUBLICATION
The catalogue for the CONTACT exhibition provides an insight into the history of the Bechyně symposium. Together with the CONTACT exhibition, The International Symposium of Bechyně Ceramics 1966–2018 also published a professional catalogue, which presents the past and the present of Bechyně gatherings through texts by art historians and interviews with artists. The introductory part of the graphically minimalist catalogue will acquaint you with the history and current direction of this important event. Artists who took part in the art meeting in Bechyně last year are also introduced, as well as those who took part in the symposia in the past. As for the latter, those selected for the book deal with similar issues in their work as contemporary visual artists. The entire catalogue is filled with interesting facts from the history and helps to better understand the context of the time in which the Bechyně meetings took place, as well as the development of the artists’ approach their respective works. Interviews with artists are a key part of the catalogue. An interview with Helena Samohelová well deserves the readers' attention. In it, the author describes how her works for architecture and public space in Czechoslovakia were created in the 1970s, and the well-known sculptor Jindra Viková talks on the topic of establishing foreign contacts in the ceramics environment. The catalogue also contains texts by Marie Klimešová and Marcel Fišer on the significance of Central European symposia in the 1960s and on the friendship of the Czech sculptor Zbyněk Sekal with the Austrian ceramicist Kurt Ohnsorg. Veronika Rollová and Kristýna Péčová interviewed the participants of the 2018 symposium, Yael Atzmony, Sofia Nørsteng, Katie Sleyman, Giorgia di Palma, Adam Železný and Ellen Kleckner. The editor of the publication is Veronika Rollová. The catalogue can be purchased from all good book sellers.
